What is CACT? See Pictures Below The California Association of Chemistry Teachers adopted its first set of bylaws in 1979, but has been offering Summer Conferences for its members since 1959. Its goal is to improve the teaching of chemistry and the professional development of chemistry teachers. Membership is open to all teachers of chemistry and to those interested in promoting effective teaching of chemistry. There are two sections, with the Northern Section roughly encompassing the area of the state above the Tehachapi Mountains, and below those mountains. CACT is operated exclusively for education and charitable purposes. Below are some of the exciting scenes from our conferences. |

The parking lot get together before entering Sharffen Berger Chocolate Factory. (Spring 2005) |
We were treated dried cocoa nuts, which gave a sneak peek of the favors we would be tasting later. Cocoa nuts are dried and striped of their outer shells, next they crushed to make that glorious Sharffen Berger chocolate we all love! (Spring 2005) |
| The tour was worth wearing the hair nets, because after came the tasting and buy of all that great milk and DARK chocolate!!! (Spring 2005) |
| Yes, another parking lot get-together before entering the Crucible. Our guide on the right knew his inorganic chemistry (metals) and his way around a wood shop. Not only does the Crucibles produce some great art, but their students are exposed to the science behind the art. | ||

Next come the man of the day!! Albert Ghiorso, who worked with Glenn Seaborg and helped discover twelve elements. Believe it or not at ninety he is doing research. (Spring 2005) | Advance Light Source (ALS) laboratory was the greatest treat all day. These dedicated staff and students at ALS are mapping DNA, and locating elements in various materials. Very very cool stuff!!! What a great future for our students pursue at Berkeley. (Spring 2005) |

| After lunch we played inside/ outside circle. It is a great idea exchange game. This game is great teach & review tool for use in our classrooms. We only had a minute or two to discuss our idea, so we had to talk fast. (Fall 2003) | ||
